“I would describe my experience with marriage as a miserable one. I feel like my whole life’s been lost,” says Dalal from Hebron, who was married off at the age of 15. Today, her life revolves around serving her husband, who beats her and controls everything she does.

Pregnant at 16, Nshokano Mwakalwa Horace in the DR Congo was shut out of school and faced pressure to start a family. But thanks to Kvinna till Kvinna’s local partner organisation AFEM, Nshokano now has both hope and renewed self-confidence.

For 16-year-old Rehema Byaombe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, being able to go to school cannot be taken for granted. “I come from a large family and my parents did not have the financial means to send me to school, so my uncle took over and since then, I have been living with him,” she says.

When violence escalated in Lebanon earlier this year, Kvinna till Kvinna activated its emergency fund to support local partner organisations. Through this support, three partner organisations provided emergency assistance to more than 460 vulnerable families and over 1,500 people.

For years, Women’s Studies Centre has worked to strengthen the rights of women and girls in Palestine. As child marriage continues despite legal reforms and war deepens existing inequalities, girls are being denied safety, education and the freedom to shape their own futures.
