The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation believes that lasting change begins locally. In the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, we support women’s rights organisations and activists who are deeply rooted in their communities.

Through long-term funding, capacity development and network strengthening, we help our partners build sustainable change, ensuring they have the tools for it.

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has worked in the South Caucasus since 2002 and in Ukraine since 2014, promoting women’s rights, peacebuilding and inclusive community engagement. In 2024, our regional work expanded to cover both the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe.

Our regional office moved from Tbilisi (Georgia) to Yerevan (Armenia) in 2025, when the space for civil society significantly shrunk in Georgia, making it hard to operate regionally. Today, Yerevan serves as one of our main hubs in the region along with more decentralised regional presence in Tbilisi (Georgia), Brussels (Belgium), Vilnius (Lithuania), Chisinau (Moldova) and Stockholm (Sweden).

Where we work

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation works with women’s rights organisations in Armenia, Ukraine and Moldova. Each context presents unique challenges and opportunities for advancing gender equality, peace and women’s participation.

  • Armenia

Since 2004, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has supported women’s rights organisations in Armenia. Our work focuses on women’s political and economic participation, peacebuilding, and protection from gender-based violence and discrimination.

After the Second Karabakh War in 2020 and the mass displacement of ethnic Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh, our partners played a vital role in providing gender responsive humanitarian aid, as well as legal and psychological support, and in addressing gender-based violence.

Today, we continue to strengthen movement building, promote holistic security, and foster integration and dialogue between displaced populations and host communities. We also provide expertise and conduct research on the gendered impacts of conflict and on combating gender and identity-based disinformation (GID).

Our work is coordinated from our Yerevan office, ensuring a long-term presence and close adaptation to local needs.

  • Moldova: a new chapter

For nearly a decade, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has been engaged in Moldova through International Training Programmes (ITP), in partnership with the Swedish Police Authority and other actors. Together, we have provided advanced training on preventing and responding to gender-based violence, strengthening collaboration between civil society and key ministries, and running initiatives such as “Father Schools” to challenge toxic gender norms.

In May 2025, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation conducted its first scoping visit to Chisinau to assess the local context and meet potential partner organisations. Expanding our presence in Moldova is part of our regional strategy for the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, aiming to promote women’s rights, gender equality, and support the meaningful participation of marginalised groups in political and social life.

Our future work will focus on building the capacity of women-led organisations, fostering networking and regional dialogue, advancing holistic Women, Peace and Security approaches, addressing gender-based violence, countering disinformation, and strengthening social cohesion in Moldova’s complex context of EU accession, the Transnistria conflict and refugee inflows.

Since 2014, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has supported women’s rights organisations in Ukraine. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the Foundation expanded its work with diverse women’s rights groups across the country, focusing on gender-responsive humanitarian aid, trauma-informed psychosocial support, and assistance for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

Today, amid ongoing warfare, mass displacement, humanitarian crises, and funding cuts, many women’s rights organisations face the risk of closure or reduced services. Despite these challenges, our programming continues, prioritising the prevention of SGBV, conflict transformation, and women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding and community-based recovery that centres on people’s needs.

In addition to traditional programming, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation also works in Ukraine through International Training Programmes (ITP) in partnership with the Swedish Police Authority and other actors, providing advanced training on preventing and responding to gender-based violence and supporting the establishment of special units for child protection and support within the Prosecutor’s Office.
