Two steps forward, one step back (2019)

Gender analysis of 2019 EC Country Reports for the Western Balkans

The EU is committed to supporting women’s rights and gender equality in the Western Balkans through the accession process but its Country Reports, the yearly document capturing progress and setbacks in the six countries in the region, often fail to include a gender perspective.

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation and its partner organisations in the Western Balkans have been monitoring and providing input to the European Commission (EC) Country Reports for over five years. In 2018, we launched the first Gender Analysis of the EC Country Reports for the Western Balkans based on seven indicators. The objective was to assess how well the EC is integrating gender analysis and evidence in its Country Reports, as mandated by the EU Gender Action Plan II, and provide recommendations. This year, we are launching the second edition of the Gender Analysis which looks at 2019 EC Country Reports.
