The report, created by the Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights together with Front Line and The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, is an attempt to record and understand the varied strategies of WHRDs to keep themselves safe and well.
It is based on over 100 interviews with women’s rights activists from all over the world who speak about their personal experiences of combatting violence and discrimination in complex contexts.
The report provides an overview of the why, what, how, and who aspects of the threats as well as discusses the pros and cons of the various strategies that women human rights defenders use in order or combat these threats.
The report ends with considerations and recommendations of what women human rights defenders need to continue their fight for gender equality. It concludes that safe spaces, both physical and psychological; time to reflect, discuss, and asses; solidarity in support but also funding; and most of all recognition are all integral parts of future sustainability in the work of Femdefenders.
